The COVID-19 Effects In Macau's Travelling Industry, Here's What We Know So Far

The COVID-19 strikes are hitting hard unexpectedly across the globe with over 6-millions confirmed case so far.

Something is however, expected. Travelling industry is heavily affected since the outburst, causing a significant reduction of demand in all travelling related sales and businesses.

This delay in international customer spending is struggling a great number of travel-dependent countries/cities such as Macau since the unfortunate start of 2020.

"Macau had the highest share of GDP generated by direct travel and tourism worldwide in 2019" -Statista 2019.

50.2% of Macau's GDP were generated by direct travel and tourism, which is famous for the high-end casinos and hotels located in Southeast Asia. Macau's GDP in 2019 was 58.5-billions USD, which is forecast to drop by 9.1% in the rest of the quarters.

Driven by the pandemic, there are pros and cons. In the good way, people become more self aware of personal hygiene and avoid hanging out on the street, which helps to eliminate the spreading of the virus. However due to the fear, being dependent on direct travel and tourism, Macau is getting hit hard since travelling at this time isn't the best choice.

Suffering from both morale and economical crisis, Macau do hope to bring the figures back up with the re-opening but people also criticize the unethical campaigns that encourage tourism at this time, risking the chance of re-spreading the virus.

COVID-19 is the last thing our humanity needs right now, and it seems to be never ending. Several places are crippling down with political crisis, riots and protests. Businesses are closing down and boosting the unemployment to new levels for major cities and countries. This slump is steep and the climb has to be determined, but it's nothing that is impossible.

In the meantime, stay safe our fellow adventurers, as always.
